National Night Out (NNO) is an annual event, that takes place on the first Tuesday in August. Each year, the Greenbelt Police Department (GPD) actively participates in National Night Out by rallying community members throughout the City of Greenbelt, Maryland to join with neighbors and police officers in their PSAs to be a part of this annual event.

 

The National Night Out campaign involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials.

 

National Night Out is designed to:

 

Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;

Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs;

Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and

Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
